    Presidential Volunteer Service Awards

    Eligibility Criteria:

    • a. To be eligible for the Presidential Volunteer Service Awards (PVSA), applicants must be a United States citizen or a lawful permanent resident of the United States (i.e., green card holder).

    • b. Applicants must provide proof of their citizenship or permanent residency status when applying for the PVSA Awards.

    • c. Applicants must be at least five years old.

    Service Requirements:

  • a. To qualify for the annual Bronze, Silver, and Gold Awards, applicants must complete eligible service within a 12-month period (e.g., from September 2022 to August 2023).

  • b. To qualify for the Lifetime Achievement Award, applicants must complete eligible service over a lifetime.

  • c. For citizens and green card holders, the hours spent on volunteer service will be recorded every year, and carried forward to achieve the Lifetime Achievement Award.

  • d. Candidates who are not citizens or green card holders can claim their volunteer service hours and receive a certification from the organization for their participation for the year. These hours can be later claimed for the Lifetime Achievement Award if they become a citizen or green card holder.
  • Multiple Organization Hours:

  • a. If a candidate is doing volunteer services for different organizations, they can claim their volunteer hours jointly in Recycle My Battery.

  • b. They need a letter or record confirming the number of hours worked from the other organization, and confirming those hours have not been claimed anywhere else.
  • Hourly Requirements:

  • a. Every volunteer applying for the PVSA Awards, including different organization hours, must have 50% of total hours from Recycle My Battery (mandatory).

  • b. At the beginning of each award period, the volunteer’s hours restart from 0 and cannot be carried over to the next award period.

  • c. There is a standard Excel format that must be downloaded and used for volunteer hour submissions. Volunteers must submit their hours monthly or quarterly.

  • d. For every submission, volunteers can submit up to 8 hours for 1 day. If more than 8 hours, the volunteer needs to provide a breakdown of hours.

  • e. Volunteers should submit one entry for each day, and multiple days’ hours together submissions need to have a breakdown. If a breakdown is not provided, those hours will not be considered.
  • Award Restrictions:

    • a. Citizens, non-citizens, and green card holders can receive the PVSA or certificate from a congressman, senator, or mayor once a year and one time only.

    • b. Depending on the number of kids, the RMB team will take them to the respective person’s office.
