Spring is in the air. Birds are singing and are beginning to build their nests!
Birds usually lay their eggs in the spring as it is warmer for the babies to survive! But, many Animal Journals have listed that birds are laying their eggs a month earlier than they did more than 100 years ago. After a recent study on century-old preserved eggs in museums, scientists said that birds were nesting in Chicago and started their nesting 25 days before when they usually lay eggs. So the researcher’s concluded that this shift was all because of climate change!
“Egg collections are such a fascinating tool to learn more about bird ecology over time!” Says John Bates who is the bird’s study lead author. Bates got very interested in birds after he got to know his museum’s egg collections from over 120 years!
Let’s hope that we could stop climate change so nesting season wouldn’t divert to make our beloved earth a better place to live!
