Electric Pulses Save Sharks From Fishing Hooks!

By Kids of RMB

There are small gadgets that emit small electrical pulses. These gadgets can actually reduce the number of sharks and stingrays being caught in dangerous fishing lines!

A new device called SharkGuard can be attached to fishing poles. This way, a limited amount of sharks and stingrays will encounter these fishing poles. This will happen as sharks and stingrays will be scared of the electrical pulses SharkGuard gives off.

In the review, completed on French boats looking for fish, lines fitted with SharkGuard decreased bycatch (unintentional getting) of blue sharks by 91% and stingrays by 71%.

Let’s hope that small little inventions like this can save our animals. We need to act before it is too late! We need to stop pollution and recycle for a better tomorrow!
