Plastic Eating Enzymes!

By Kids of RMB

Plastic is a daily component of our lives! Worldwide, 40% of the plastic we use is not even recycled and it is thrown away in the trash! The plastic is thrown outside instead of being recycled! Plastic can take 400+ years to decompose and some other plastics can’t even decompose and they stay forever! This is a huge problem because it is causing environmental pollution and is killing so many animals worldwide!

Scientists were researching by taking many samples and when they are experimenting on them, they found so many microbes which could slowly break plastic apart! These microbes are capable of eating 10+ types of plastic! Scientists are still studying these microbes to find the most efficient one for breaking down plastic. When they do, they will release the microbes so they could start breaking down the plastic which was polluted by humans!

Let’s hope that the microbes are like the Pac-Man robot that I posted earlier so both of these amazing inventions could eat plastic to make the earth a better place to live!

We also need more people like Sian Sutherland and Sharon Barak to come up with more amazing inventions and ideas to help solve the plastic problem and make Mother Earth a better place to live for our future generations to come! There is no Planet B, let’s make a difference!
