New research from Global Monitoring Lab has identified temperate Western Asia and tropical Asia as two additional source regions for the rising emissions of CFCs identified by NOAA scientists!
The 3 regions of Asia were responsible for the rising emissions of the banned chemical. CFCs are a chemical that was used in many different things including refrigerants. But, in the 1980s, scientists found out that CFCs made a hole above Antarctica in the Ozone. So all of the governments got together and banned the usage of CFCs in late 1980! Scientists also found significant increasing emissions from temperature Western Asia and tropical Asia!
Lead author Lei Hu a CIRES scientist who studies CFCs and other Ozone-depleting trace gases working at NOAA’s Global Monitoring Laboratory said her team analyzed a large set of high-quality air samples that contained CFCs!
Even though CFCs are banned, let’s stop the usage to protect our ozone! It’s time to change our behavior. It’s like NOW or NEVER as there is no PLANET B!
