Pros And Cons Of Plastic Bags And Paper Bags!

By Kids of RMB

Paper Bags: Paper Bags are bags that are made of paper. Paper is normally harvested from trees. The Pros of having Paper Bags are that these are more environmentally friendly than using plastic bags. Paper bags contain more capacity for goods. Paper Bags are also 100% Biodegradable and will dissolve within contact with water. These are the pros of using Paper Bags. The bad thing about using Paper Bags is the environmental impact. Each year, more than 3-6 billion trees are cut down for Paper! This is more than 35% of trees cut down!!! The burning of wood for paper releases more than 70% of air pollution! So paper bags also cause environmental problems.

Let’s now talk about Plastic Bags. Plastic bags have more chances of surviving as they can last forever. Plastic bags can be reused multiple times whereas paper bags cannot be reused. While Paper Bags wouldn’t survive the rain, plastic bags would. The Cons of Plastic Bags are that they can contaminate the water with their toxic chemicals. Sea marine animals would be severely injured or killed by plastic. Plastic would choke the ocean to death! Also, these plastic bags can take more than 500 years to decompose. Some plastics can stay forever! So these are the environmental impacts of using Plastic Bags.

In my opinion, using both of these bags is not environmentally friendly one way or another. I hope that someone will come forward with a new kind of bag which is 100% sustainable and wouldn’t cause any environmental problems.

For now, using reusable cloth / other bags is the only option, and remember to always recycle.
