How Scientists Discovered A New Type Of Microbe Which Is Capable Of Eating Plastic!

By Kids of RMB

More than 40% of plastic around the world is used at once and then thrown away! Then, this plastic ends up in landfills and harms our environment because many people don’t recycle them! Plastic has a lifespan of 450 years but some plastic is not biodegradable and they last forever! As a result of this plastic problem, microbes are also evolving to decompose plastic! Scientists have discovered more than 30,000 plastic-eating enzymes and these microbes is the most effective one! These enzymes are capable of eating more than 10 types of plastic! This is very useful because, in a few years, these enzymes and microbes would be capable of eating and decomposing all of the plastic we have at home which is used! Let’s hope that scientists give each person a few of these microbes so we could toss our old used plastic in the microbe bin so they could eat the plastic!

This evolution of the microbes could actually make our beloved earth a better place to live!
