A new study shows that smoke from all of the wildfires burning in the USA, Australia, etc is damaging the ozone layer. Research shows that if major fires continue throughout this changing climate, more damaging UV Radiation from sunlight would touch the ground!
Atmosphere Chemists from the University of Waterloo in Ontario, Canada found that smoke from harmful wildfires is potential enough to destroy the ozone layer. This is because, in 2019 and 2020, Australian Fires destroyed some ozone gas!
The Ozone layer is a layer of gas 17 miles above the earth. Since the Ban of Chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), the Ozone started healing. But the harmful smoke from wildfires is further damaging our ozone layer!
“The Australian fires injected acidic smoke particles into the stratosphere which disrupted the chlorine, hydrogen and nitrogen gases which were in the Ozone layer!” This means that if more poisonous gases go into our atmosphere, it would be the potential to destroy the Ozone layer.
I felt really sad after I first heard about this! UV Radiation is very harmful and can kill all of us in a few weeks! Let’s do something and stop the growth of wildfires immediately or else all of our lives would be impacted along with all animals and plants.
