Let’s talk about 2 US scientists who are turning plastic into edible protein!

By Kids of RMB

More than 300 million tons of plastic are generated from us each year! More than 10 million tons of this plastic ends up in oceans! Plastic breaks down in 450+ years and some plastic lasts forever! This pollution can kill lots of animals and even injure them! So 2 US scientists decided to do something about this! They created a factory that turns old used plastic into edible protein! You may think that the protein is unhealthy or gross to eat but, it is the same protein which you eat today!

This process uses microbes that are gene hacked! These microbes are hacked to turn plastic into protein! So these microbes decompose the plastic and then they turn the plastic into edible protein! This could be very useful because it could supply us and the environment at the same time! These scientists are working to turn plastic into fuel one day! They are trying to achieve this dream so larger cooperations would someday be interested to buy fuel from them! They hope to do this to earn a profit and to save the environment!

Let’s hope that their invention works to make our beloved earth a better place to live! I always say, “If I can make the earth a better place to live, you can! If you can make the earth a better place to live, we all can!”
