Methane bacteria consume 30 million metric tons of methane per year and have captivated researchers with their natural ability to convert the potent greenhouse gas into useable fuel!
By studying this enzyme the bacteria used to consume the methane, a team at Northwestern University now discovered structures that may drive the process! Their findings were published on March 18 in the Science journal could lead to the development of human-made biological catalysts that convert the methane gas into methanol! Methanol is just like ethanol and it is a fuel that could be used for cars!
Methane is very harmful to our environment and it has a strong bond so it is pretty remarkable and surprising that we discovered an enzyme that could do this! Scientists say that if we don’t know about these enzymes, we could study these enzymes and learn more about their capability of destroying methane!
Let’s hope that we could reduce methane to make the earth a better place to live! I really hope that everyone is responsible for their actions and makes our earth a better place to live for our future generations to come!
