Robot jellyfish – Invention to save coral reefs!

By Kids of RMB

Coral reefs are big structures in the ocean! Think about the cities we have now. Coral reefs are underwater cities for animals! These reefs are built by tiny animals called coral polyps. The Great barrier reef is the largest reef in the world! Many aquatic animals live in the reef and it is very important for the food chain! Animals can be fish to crabs to sharks! But, coral reefs are slowly being destroyed by climate change, unsustainable fishing, and human exploration!

British scientists revealed a safe and sustainable way to explore endangered coral reefs: Robot jellyfish! This computer-programmed jellyfish acts just like a normal jellyfish and has propellers to move! This technology can help us learn more about coral reefs in a safer way for both us and the animals! The idea is to begin using robot jellyfish in the place of divers to observe, explore, and even restore delicate coral reefs. Although this technology has been tested in tanks, it has yet to be tested in the ocean.

Let’s hope that this experiment will be successful and we will be able to save Coral reefs. Please do take care of our mother earth like you take care of yourself!!
