What is Sustainable Manufacturing?

By Kids of RMB

Reducing the importance of petroleum and natural gas is our main goal which could help us achieve a smaller carbon footprint 👣!

We use and manufacture many products which require petroleum and natural gas right? But since the environment is getting damaged, it may mean that people have to rethink the products which we use in daily life.

Chemical Manufacturing which is the process of turning raw materials into products using chemical processes, is an $800 billion dollar industry that supports over 6 million jobs in the USA each year. This contributes to the production of everything such as food, buildings, and clothing to items found in industries such as health care, electronics, and transportation.

Traditionally Chemical manufacturing relies on non-renewable fossil energy sources for power and raw materials. A more sustainable option is using electrolyzers! These are devices that use electricity to convert raw materials like carbon dioxide into something useful!

University of Delaware engineers Feng Jiao, Yushan Yan, and Koffi Pierre Yao and colleagues at Louisiana State University (LSU) are collaborating to overcome these challenges.

Let’s hope that we put electrolyzers to use all around the world to make the earth a better place to live for our future generations to come!!
