Carbon dioxide levels also record a big jump!
For the second year in a row, NOAA scientists saw a massive annual increase in atmospheric methane. Methane is a powerful heat-trapping greenhouse gas that is 10 times better at trapping heat from the sun than carbon dioxide.
NOAA’s analysis showed the annual increase in atmospheric methane during 2021! The increase was very big more than 162% bigger than pre-industrial levels which were way before the 1850s. NOAA says that the global-methane emissions in 2021 are 15% higher than in the 1984-2006 period.
Levels of carbon dioxide are increasing rapidly as well in 2021! Let’s hope that we reduce the amount of these potent greenhouse gases going into the atmosphere to make our earth a better place to live.
